In the state of Pa,  PUBLIC/COMMERCIAL pools have to be closed right after Labor Day (within a day or two).  This is NOT the case with residential pools.  Residential pools are totally at the discreation of the pool/home owner as to when they get closed.  Rule of thumb,  open early while it’s still cold,  close late after it gets cold again.
